Critique on the Doxiadis Grid
The Doxiadis grid has been being critized as overly scientific and created undesirable large scale banality. The 2x2 km- “neighborhood” module does not create a satisfying neighborhood but an alienated scale to the human being. The repetitiven pinwheel grid system also generates a lot of unused/speculative “leftover spaces”. To challenge the top-down system, and particularly to deal with the “leftover” land, an organic and self-evolving design strategy is integrated based on the traditional housing typology and street layout.
